I invested in a pressure cooker and it works like a charm. Cuts cooking time down to 1/3. From my limited research, Lorna Sass seems to be the pressure cooking guru in North America...I borrowed her "Complete Vegetarian Kitchen" from the library and found the tables detailing cooking times for various grains and beans helpful.

Like most others said, wow! Then again...It doesn't necessarily surprise me. I remember how excited I was to first go to Moosewood about 8-10 yrs. ago. My parents {not veg.} were taking me because I found out about it and it was a place that was veg. My dad was so worried he couldn't eat anything. After looking at the menu he saw stew but noticed it didn't have meat...he said..."How can it be stew?"...then he saw a fish item {which surprised me at the time as I thought it was a veg place}...and he liked the restaurant again. He ordered the stew as well...and even though he complained about the lack of meat...he finished the whole thing and said it was good.

So if a menu offers fish.....it doesn't surprise me she would publish a recipe with meat

I wish I could say I thought this would backfire horribly... I'd love it if it turned out that way.

Unfortunately I've known way too many people who repeat the "people eating tasty animals" joke, who look at pictures of cows or pigs and say "mmm, food," etc. There was a guy on one season of Top Chef who was always seen wearing a shirt that said "Bacon is a vegetable" (still don't really understand that slogan) with a picture of a cartoon pig on it.

There are plenty of people who are willing to joke about the animals they eat. Maybe it's a defense mechanism to protect them from the guilt they would otherwise feel. Or maybe they're just that callous. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if this slogan took off, and it would just be more proof to me of the sad state of our culture.

Congrats! And I really do like your site, but have a question that I hope doesn't offend. You call the site VEGdaily, but as far as I can tell, the updates are more like once a week, if that. Am I missing something? Or is VEGdaily more of an aspirational name for the site? I really do enjoy your posts, but I check the site almost daily and am regularly bummed when I don't see new content.

Which brings me to ... can your readers, including me, do anything to help the site live up to its name? Let us know, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to support you guys but has wondered about the VEGdaily moniker.
