Raw Pea-Pesto Pasta With Wilted Kale

Georges Laraque Is Green Party’s Deputy Leader

Former NHL player Georges Laraque has been named the Deputy Leader of the Green Party in Canada. As a vegan and animal rights activist, Laraque couldn’t have picked a more appropriate organization to align himself with.

The Green Party’s Vision, a lengthy document updated in January of 2010, lists the party’s goals for a sustainable Canada that includes changes made to food, animal, transportation and employee practices

Progress And Perfection

One of my favorite mantras–stolen from my friend Gil–is “progress, not perfection.” It’s a handy little proverb for people like me, who are perfectionists about everything, and it’s especially helpful to share with clients who are trying to improve their dietary habits. Most of my clients are perfectionists too, and they tend to envision the journey toward healthy living as a one-hundred-meter dash toward a spotless finish line.

The reality is that improved eating habits take time and practice, and that living well doesn’t mean living like a saint.

Chelsea Clinton’s Big Fat Vegan Wedding

In case you haven’t heard, Chelsea Clinton is getting ready to tie the knot this week with fiance Marc Mezvinsky at Astor Courts, the former estate of John Jacob Astor IV.

The gorgeous property sits on 50 acres and overlooks the Hudson River.

Location aside, I’m psyched to hear that Ms. Clinton is focusing on a heavily “green” menu.

“Chelsea is a vegan. The food will include vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, but there will also be grass-fed organic beef on the menu.”

Stella McCartney Designs Faux Fur Prototype To Replace Queen’s Guards’ Caps

ast week a team from PETA unveiled a faux fur alternative to the bearskin caps worn by the Queen’s Guards at Buckingham Palace. After years of development and undergoing rigorous water repellency tests the plastic-fiber prototype, designed by Stella McCartney, was presented to several Ministry of Defence officials.

“Historically, England has a very high regard for animals, so it makes perfect sense that the MoD should continue shedding ceremonial furs from uniforms,” said McCartney.

In my effort to be the Rupert Murdoch of social-conscious media, this morning I launched Live a Damn Radio — a brand new weekly radio program that spotlights the many world-changers who are raising the bar on social consciousness and taking meaningful action to create change.

Whether showcasing altruistic celebrities, everyday heroes or hardworking organizations, Live a Damn is all about giving some love to those who are going above and beyond to make the world a better place. By discussing human, environmental and animal rights together, in one place, the goal is simple: inspire and empower, celebrate and create, and ultimately build new bridges to connect how one feels to how one acts.
