valentines-day

The days are counting down and we are less than one month away from the equally dreaded and anticipated St. Valentine’s Day. As with all holidays, I see this as another opportunity to infuse your life with vegan goodness.

If you are searching for Mr. or Miss Right (or Right Now) to take out on February 14, consider checking out some of the infinite online dating options. OkCupid.com is a free site that attracts more vegans and vegetarians than some of the more popular — and costly — sites. If you want a themed dating site that allows you to search for people based on specific diet (e.g. vegan, lacto/ovo veg, almost vegetarian, etc.), check out the free GreenSingles.com or the fee-based VeggieDate.org. Search for “vegetarian online dating” and you will find a dozen other veg-specific free and fee-based sites.

If you are lucky in love and already have a date, then it’s time to start planning your romantic moves. Whip up a homemade vegan dinner to show ultimate compassion. And don’t forget dessert! Make your own tasty treat, stop by a local vegan bakery, or check out some of the great online places to get cruelty-free chocolates, baked goods and more. If you don’t have a nearby vegan baker or sweets shop, I recommend checking out the all-vegan online shop, Bete Noire Chocolates. For some love-themed recipes, pick up a copy of the February issue of Vegetarian Times or visit the Vegetarian Society’s Vegetarian Valentines suggestions online.

If you are not interested in falling prey to Cupid’s romantic pressures, regardless of your dating status, consider attending or planning a group Valentine’s event. Search on Meetup.com for local vegan and vegetarian groups; many of them probably already have something planned or would be up for hosting or promoting one. If you live in Philadelphia, or want to get some ideas for planning your own event, check out the Vegan Valentine’s Dance and Drinks that I am planning. West coast vegans can check out the Vegan Valentine’s Day Dance in Berkley, California.

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day from the entire gang at VEGdaily.com!
