Battle Of The High-Powered Blenders Part 1: Vitamix Vs. Blendtec

untitled-1

Ever since a Vitamix high-powered blender came into my kitchen almost one year ago, my diet has taken nutritional leaps and bounds. I regularly make green smoothies, almond milk, raw soups, nut butters, hummus and dips. Hardly a day goes by when I don’t use my Vitamix. But lately I had been hearing about the other high-powered blender: Blendtec. I know lots of people that have either a Blendtec or a Vitamix, but no one was able to tell me what the differences are between the two. No one had tried both brands.

So I decided to get my hands on a Blendtec and get down to comparing the two competitors. This morning, my shiny new digital Blendtec arrived … five minutes after I finished drinking a smoothie from my Vitamix! I decided this was a good opportunity to directly compare the results, so I made another smoothie with all of the same ingredients.

So far the primary difference is the level of control. The Blendtec is largely automatic: you simply press a button labeled with the category of food that you are making (e.g. smoothie, juice, soup) and it varies the speeds for a set period of time. On the Vitamix, you control speed and time.

While I continue comparing and contrasting the two, take a second to leave a comment and let me know your relationship with high-powered blenders. Are you a Blendtec, a Vitamix, some other kind of blender, or just wishing you could afford one? Chime in and let us know!

I’ve had a Vitamix for many years. I love it (just wish I could put a muffler on it)!

I love my Vitamix so much that I had to get my mom one for Xmas too. I use it every day as well and don’t know what I’d do without it!

I have a Blentec mostly because it is automatic and it fits nicely on my kitchen countertop underneath the cabinet space which is not big enough for a Vitamix.

A lot of corporations use Blendec because you can press a button and let it work. I like this feature as well.

Plus, does anyone ask “Will it Blend?” when they see your Vitamix? http://www.willitblend.com/

So far, just wishing I could afford one. Maybe VegDaily could do a giveaway? :)

I’ve heard so many good things about the VitaMix, from how easy it is to clean to the fact that it can heat soups while blending. How does the Blendtec compare as far as clean-up? How about hot soups? Can it grind grains into a flour and knead dough like the VitaMix?

I just checked both sites to scope out price (Blendtec: $399.95 before shipping; $439.95 with shipping…the basic VitaMix 5200: $449 before shipping; $474 with shipping; the deluxe VitaMix 5200 – which looks awesome – is $649 before shipping; $674 with shipping).

Anyway, it’s a pretty big chunk of change for either, so I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts as you get to know the Blendtec. I’ll keep saving up while you keep comparing and contrasting. :) Thanks!

I didn’t know Vitamixers could heat things but I know people are always drooling over theirs. I have a Magic Bullet that my mom bought for me off the infomercial and it does the trick and is easy for taking smoothies with me in the morning. Probably will be a long time before I buy one of these other pricey machines.

I love my Vitamix! I like being able to control the time and speed.

  7. I have had a vitamix for about 3 years now, it is definitely the ultimate blender.
