Michael Vick Reminds Vegetarians Everywhere Why They Went VEG
Posted in Activism, General VEG! on 14. Sep, 2009
I live in Philly and am a full-time animal advocate. Can you guess what question I have been hearing several times a day for the past few weeks?
“So … what do you think about Michael Vick and the Eagles?” (insert smirk)
In short, I am not angry. I am not out protesting. I am trying to bring attention back to the animals and vegetarianism.
While distributing vegan literature at the Philly Green Fest I talked to a woman who used to be vegetarian. She humbly confessed that she had gotten lazy several years ago and started eating meat again. She was at my table collecting VEG starter kits, recipes, and more, because as she put it:Â “This whole thing with Michael Vick got me thinking about it again and reminded me why I became vegetarian in the first place. I am ready to go back.”
Hearing personal stories like this is why I am not protesting Vick’s arrival in my hometown. Have you heard any VEG/Vick related stories? Chime in and share!

I’m so glad you posted this! My husband is a longtime vegetarian, a major animal lover and a die-hard Eagles fan… and he hates that Vick has become a part of a team he loves so much. I’m happy to hear that his inhumane and criminal acts have steered more people toward vegetarianism – at least there is something positive happening out of this whole mess!
Vick is the embodiment of our culture’s distance between our view of people and animals. If he had treated any one person the way he did any of his dogs, despite any excuse of upbringing, the general consensus would be to leave him to rot in prison. His status as an athlete would count for nothing.
People are more willing to accept his crimes of animal abuse to welcome him back to a sports team than they are to accept baseball players’ steroid habits.
It’s good to hear that someone out there was inspired in a positive way by the readily apparant lack of justice in Vick going back to the NFL.
Vick dosent deserve to be on a team. He was killing, drowning dogs and laughing the whole time. Sicko. If he had done that to a human he would still be in Prison.
