If you’ve been eating tried-and-true veggie food for a while now, chances are you sometimes take for granted how these convenient processed foods, like tofu and miso, make their way to your grocery store.  Perhaps it’s time to shake things up a bit by taking on some ambitious homemade food projects from the ground up.

It’s not as scary as it sounds!  In fact it can be fun and rewarding.  These veggie bloggers show us the possibilities of making things from scratch in the comfort of our own home.

  • Skip those jarred ones coated in olive oil – Lolo at veganyumyum.com tells us how to roast your own red peppers.
  • Renae at “i eat food” gives us a double whammy: homemade miso that took her an entire year to ferment (wow!) and tofu mayo.
  • Veganyumyum tells us how to make Poolish Foccaccia bread as a delicious weekend project. Lucklily, Lolo always accompanies her posts with gorgeous step-by-step pictures.
  • Vegan Dad comes to the rescue with a take on veggie lunch meat.
  • No one knows homemade hummus like Dreena Burton, who took on the traditional fare with many variations in her cookbook Eat Drink & Be Vegan.
  • Susan of Fat Free Vegan Kitchen demonstrates the making of tofu from scratch using homemade soymilk!
  • And the all-knowing vegan queen Isa Chandra Moskowitz shares her recipe for homemade seitan.
  • Ever tried making cinnamon buns?  Trust me, this Pumpkin Cinnamon bun recipe by Katie of Don’t Eat off the Sidewalk will knock your socks off.

Have you ever tried to make something from scratch just for fun? Chime in and leave a comment telling us your story!
