Planning a Vegan Wedding? What’s On The Menu?

w7

I’m all about vegan weddings lately – because I’m planning one!  Having an all vegan ceremony and reception can be touchy – many guests will be resentful not to have a meaty choice on the menu, despite the fact that it is against your values as a couple.  Talking to venue caterers can be discouraging as well, since many will refuse to create custom menus or create ones that are dull, essentially setting up a meat dish without the meat. Since my partner and I are both vegan, we decided that giving the option to eat animals to our guests was out of the question.

My tips?

  • Give your caterer lots of menu ideas to let them know what kind of meal you are looking for, like the ones in the VegNews Vegan Vows feature.
  • Make it accessible:  I opted to give my guests lots of choices (we’re having a buffet), and minimized the tofu/fake meat to make the food less threatening.
  • Check out some blogs for inspiration!  I loved reading the Ethical Pizza and Vegan Punk wedding stories.
  • Stick to your guns:  Eric and Emelia did!  When their parents refused to pay for their wedding unless they served meat, these two paid for a smaller wedding on their own – and it was worth it!

What is your take on having a vegan wedding? Would you have meat or vegetarian options to appease family, or would you have an all out veggie menu?

As stated above, our friends at VegNews are the vegan wedding gods! Stop on by their site to learn more from the best!

  1. My husband and I had a vegetarian wedding.
Now we’re vegan and we’ll have a vegan 5 year anniversary party next year :)
