The Daily Must-Have: The Pressto Revolutionizes Tofu!
Posted in Products on 18. Jun, 2009

Some say that I have an obsessive personality (especially for all things VEG), but how can I NOT obsess over the Pressto – the coolest product I’ve seen all week!Â
How many times have you been left totally bummed out after using 5 billion paper towels to drain that block of tofu? This product will put an END to all that soy-based shame. Â
The Pressto is the first ever compact kitchen device that presses water out of a block of tofu and then lets you quickly dice it into small, ideal-for-cooking sized cubes in just seconds.
This neato device is being sold on Quirky.com which has a rather…quirky selling policy. They don’t actually manufacture the product until they hit the correct number of presale units. Right now 14 units have been presold, but they must reach 250 before production!Â
So help them help you and preorder yours today at Quirky.com. Your tofu will thank you!

… it’s tempting!
Awesome. And yes, it could help vegetarians/vegans where they eco-sin the most–tofu activities that involve draining with paper towels.
I want it now! Will mention on girliegirlarmy.com this week!
xo
What a fantastic contraption! I’ll post it on my blog too!
all you have to do is poke a bunch of holes in the container… lazy. in any case tofu contains phytates and your better off eating femented soy products like tempeh, soy sause and miso if you want to get maximum nutritional benefit
since when is it necessary to use paper towels to drain a block of tofu? if you want a zero-waste (well, with the exception of the recyclable container the tofu came in) solution…
• drain the liquid out of tofu container
• put the block-o-tofu on the far end of a rimmed sheet pan
• put a clean tea towel on top of the tofu and something flat and heavy on top of that (cookbook, large can, etc.)
• on your counter/stovetop tilt the pan at slight angle by putting a cookbook or rolled up towel underneath, so the tofu is on the high side. let it hang out there while you prep the rest of your dinner. all the liquid will collect on the other end!
i mean, this looks like a cool thing, but i’m not a fan of single purpose kitchen tools. especially in nyc-sized kitchens.
