Animal Abuse Called Art At David Zwirner Gallery In NYC
Posted in Animals on 06. May, 2009

Art is cool. I’d even go far as to say that I’m pro-art. But hurt some animals for the sake of your little crafty poo and I’ll turn this car around so fast you’ll wish you took the subway!
If you live in NYC and happen to stop by the David Zwirner Gallery you’ll find a massively disturbing video in Adel Abdessemed’s new exhibit.
The piece is called Usine, and is a  1:27-minute color video made in Mexico depicting animals from roosters to pit bulls mauling the eff out of each other.Â
Think I’m just being a sensitive animal-rightser? Think again!Â
New York Times critic Ken Johnson said: “I think that Adel Abdessemed’s video of animals fighting and killing each other (at the David Zwirner gallery), is the most appalling and evil work of art I have ever seen. Michael Vick went to prison for far less. Why so little outrage?â€Â
What do you think about the grotesque nastiness? Chime in and share your thoughts!Â

Really? I mean- really? Some people are SO untalented that they have to reduce to violence and blatant disrespect for life all to create shock value to get attention- any attention?
Reminds me of the starving dog exhibit.
Horrifying and pathetic. Ugh.
Get some talent. This is not art.
Wow. I don’t even know what to say to that.
Just… disgusting.
I’m wondering if the animal abuse was actually staged specifically for the video, or if it was made from this horrible behaviour already happening. If it’s the former, it’s horrifying.
However, if it’s the latter, it makes me wonder if perhaps the exhibit was supposed to get just this sort of reaction; if the point of the video was to outrage people and make them think twice about the way animals are treated, then I can see the good in this mess. I would just hope that, after filming scenes of animal abuse, the person(s) with the camera turned the abusers into the authorities for their proper punishment.
Can someone find out the number and contact at the art gallery and we’ll start calling and complaining? This is ridiculous. We should also get a petition going!!
I, too, have a very pit-bull who is the most loving animal I’ve ever owned. Quickly, a brand new dog breed will occur together for that media to blast, because they have done rotties and dobies in previous many years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds a lot inaccurate facts.
