Pedigree Serves Up Vegetarian Food For Indian Dogs

What could make caring for a vegetarian dog even easier than it already is?
There are already plenty of great specialty brand choices for your VEG dog companion, such as V-dog, available online and at select natural food stores. But what if you could go to any corner market and grab Fido some meat-free food? Well now you can — if you live in India, that is.
Last week Mars India, leaders in the dog food industry, released a new product from the mainstream brand Pedigree. The new product, Pedigree 100 percent Complete Dog Food, is currently only available in India, the country with the most vegetarians.
Want Pedigree to bring their VEG dog food to the U.S.? Use their online feedback form to let them know that Americans want vegetarian dog food too!

Vegetarian dog food is ridiculous. Humans can do fine on a properly balanced vegetarian/vegan diet, but dogs are carnivores and need meat. It’s unfair to make your dog suffer because of your ethics and beliefs. If you do not want to give meat, you should not have a carnivore as a pet. If you want a vegetarian animal, get a rabbit and think about re-homing your dog to a family that will feed him according to his needs.
Hi Amy: no offence meant when I say that you’re factually wrong. There are millions of strays in India, many of them living to 13 and longer (depending on whether they can find scraps often enough). Almost none of these millions have any meat at all… who would throw meat in the trash?
I’d really like to see the facts and figures on this dog food as alot of previous science has indicated that dogs do defintely need meat and some brands of dog food have meat contents on 70-1 ratios. I’m sure pedigree have done their research but nevertheless as amy says they are defintetly carnivores and DO need meat in my opinion.
Hi DL, I’ll only tell you about two simple, observable facts. The dogs I’ve raised, and who died at around age 13, had zero meat in their lives. Second: the millions of strays in India, which live long if there’s enough scraps, get no meat in their diet… or maybe 1%.
Millions of people in India see and know this, so where does this put the research that says dogs need meat?
