Feisty Foodie Blows A Lot Of Hot Air About Being Vegetarian

cowGet ready to start hatin’ on another anti-VEG writer! New York Magazine’s restaurant section picked up Feisty Foodie’s blog post about the pit falls of trying out a vegetarian diet. The blogger observes a lot of negative, and not always true, aspects of eating a meat-free diet.

She repeatedly states that “vegetarian diets are very gassy,” which isn’t a complete lie, what with all the beans and brocoli. But then she just goes too far …

“Vegetarian foods or all vegetable dishes tend to be a bit bland and/or boring. ”

“It is possible to eat a completely vegetarian meal and feel not just full, not just satisfied, but completely sated and happy.”

On the whole “vegetarian/vegan dishes are bland and boring” thing…
I see this an awful lot, and I don’t understand why. I don’t understand why because there are so many, many wonderful vegetarian and vegan cook books out there with great recipes. There’s also vegan and vegetarian cooking blogs with free recipes if you just take the time to seek them out. All it takes is an internet search engine, library card or local book store and you have tons of delicious veg food!

As far as the gassy thing goes…well, that’s what happens when you eat too much of 1 thing.

OH!! I just reread that last quote and realized that she says POSSIBLE. I kept reading it as IMpossible. That makes it so much better, though still not pro-veg.

I’ve just gotten back from a trip to Vegas to find a lot of ink on this blog post, but I do plan on addressing all the comments I’ve gotten thusfar… I just want to point out that most people seem to be focusing on the negative things I’ve written (which I didn’t even consider to be complete negatives) and ignoring the positive things I discovered about going vegetarian (even for a short while).
Also, I realize that part of what I wrote was a bit unclear – I didn’t mean all vegetable dishes are bland/boring (an overreaching generalization), I meant all-vegetable dishes; dishes comprised of all vegetables, that is.
Anyhow, I do plan on writing a response, but thanks for the write-up.
