Daily Dose Of B-12: Vegan Athlete Brendan Brazier Chats Plant-Based Protein
Posted in Videos on 20. Apr, 2009

“I’ve been vegan now for — it’s been about 18 years — and I have no problem at all getting enough protein. I’m able to build muscle quite easily and improve my performance. When people realize that really so many good foods have protein in them — just good plant-based whole foods like greens for example. Kale or spinach has 45 percent protein. Because it’s such high quality, the amount you need for the day is actually far less than what the guidelines will suggest. I eat less than half the amount of protein a conventional sports nutrition book says I should eat based on my body weight and my activity level, yet, like I say, I’m easily able to build muscle and improve athletic performance. That’s just a testament to the quality of the protein not so much the quantity.”
