I knew this was the right thing for me to do and I also knew that I was making a decision that I would be committed to for the rest of my life. There’s a huge problem with this post – and that’s that John Mackey owns and operates a multi-million dollar (billion dollar, perhaps) company that in part profits off the exploitation and killing of animals. How you can be a vegan and run such a business seems be seems to pose some critical questions, don’t you think?

If being vegan means abstaining from the consumption of animals and animal products, it seems only logical that definition would include not buying and selling dead animals as well.

If he is truly committed to the vegan ethic, he would drop all animal products from distribution in Whole Foods stores – DESPITE however much business he may lose in the process.

Jenny- I feel your pain..BUT…it isn’t so easy. John isn’t the only one making decisions for Whole Foods. Behind every corporation is a board of directors who are protecting the shareholders interests.

If John said, ” Listen, I’m not going to have animal products in the store anymore,” he would simply be fired and replaced by somebody who would be HAPPY to sell such products.

Having a vegan as CEO of Whole Foods is great because we know he will always look out for our interest and include products for vegans and vegetarians in the store as well.

  3. The topic is quite hot in the net right now. What do you pay attention to when choosing what to write ?
