President Barack Obama Closes USDA Loophole — Animal Lovers Rejoice!

obamaRepeat after me: OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA!!!

On March 14th, President Obama announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture was officially putting a stop to non-ambulatory cattle being mishandled in order to get them into slaughter plants. Translation: cows too sick or weak to stand on their own will no longer be cruelly dragged and abused in order to be slaughter for human consumption.

During a Weekly Address, Obama said:

“We are a nation built on the strength of individual initiative. But there are certain things that we can’t do on our own. There are certain things that only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat, and the medicines we take, are safe and don’t cause us harm.”

While there is still much work to be done, this news is evidence that the current administration is taking into account animal issues in a way that we haven’t seen before. A great big thank you to President Barack Obama for helping to make the world a safer, healthier, more compassionate place!
