Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 Will Outlaw Organic Food!!!
Posted in Videos on 30. Mar, 2009

Hold on to your hats!Â
Many people don’t know that on February 4th, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (HR 875) was introduced to congress and, if passed, would essentially outlaw organic food.Â
Who oh who would want to do such a ghastly thing? Corporate America, take a bow!
The bill was introduced by Rosa DeLauro whose husband Stanley Greenburg works for Monsanto — one of the truly most evil, crooked companies in this country. OpEdNews explains why this is Monsanto’s dream bill:
“The bill is monstrous on level after level – the power it would give to Monsanto, the criminalization of seed banking, the prison terms and confiscatory fines for farmers, the 24 hours GPS tracking of their animals, the easements on their property to allow for warrantless government entry, the stripping away of their property rights, the imposition by the filthy, greedy industrial side of anti-farming international “industrialâ€ standards to independent farms – the only part of our food system that still works, the planned elimination of farmers through all these means.”
Want to stop this travesty from happening?
CampaignForLiberty.com recently offered these ways that YOU can help get involved:Â
- Contact your members at 202-224-3121 and ask them to oppose HR 875 and S 425. Â While you are at it ask them if they personally have read the legislation and what their position is? If they have not read the legislation ask them to read it and politely let them know that just because other representitives are not reading the legislation and voting on it does not mean they can do the same. Â
- Get in touch with local farmers and food producers by attending a local farmers market and asking them how business is. Â
- Attend a local WAPF meeting, this is a good start to learning about what is going on in farming and local & state initiatives .  The website is http://www.westonaprice.org/localchapters/index.html
- Check out the Farmers Legal Defense Fund at http://www.ftcldf.org/index.html
- Find out who sits on your states agriculture and farming committee and contact them with your concerns.
- Continue to contact your elected officials and let them know your position on legislation and why.
- Get active at the local and state levels, this is the quickest way to initiate change.
So take a moment and stand up for local and organic farms. The last thing we want is greedy corporate mongers taking control of our food supply!

I’ve been trying to find out more about this bill. All of the information about it being the death of organic farming seems to be coming from less than reliable sources, all repeating the same information. I read over the bill myself (as much as I could stand reading it before dieing of sheer boredom) and didn’t see any indication that it would ban organic farming. Then I found something that says the whole thing is a myth and that HR 875 won’t have any effect on organic farming: http://www.foodpolitics.com/wp-content/uploads/myths-and-facts.pdf
Has anyone really looked into this thoroughly enough to say for sure if this is an evil bill that must be stopped, or if we have all been led astray by fear mongerers and rumors?
Oh, and then there is this interesting post from someone retracting earlier misninformation about HR 875
