Eating Red Meat Is Bad For You?? DUH!!!!

So we’re a bit late to the table on this, but not on accident.

The Washington Post recently reported that eating red meat decreases lifespan, and the general public is shocked. Me, I’m doing a big old eye roll (FYI: vegans and vegetarians are allowed 9 “we told you so” eye rolls a year).

Listen, I’m thrilled that this subject is getting coverage, but how many more studies must be produced before people actually change their ways. A simple stroll over to the comment section on WashingtonPost.com will show you that ignorance is still in full swing. Here’s a sampling of a few of my favorite comments:

“This study had to be one big waste of money. Middle-aged and elderly are supposed to die. Meat good! Dying good!”

“I only eat bean sprouts, alfalfa and algae. I drink filtered rain water, only. guess what?! I’m a pariah. No one will invite me to dinner, my bowels are runny and I pass gas constantly. Who cares? I’m going to live forever. Lucky me!”

“I was beginning to accept the authority and advice contained in this article. UNTIL, I read that the consumption of red meat is linked to global warming. Give me a break.”

Now I don’t mean to be Debby Downer here. I really am super pleased that the Washington Post published this piece — it’s just that sometimes I get frustrated with what seems like a forever jog on the hamster wheel of progress. Know what I mean, jelly bean?
